Soil Studies
Through efforts of its work teams, the Authority performed special studies related to soil aiming to optimize utilization of land suitable for agriculture, giving priority to the best soils in quality to utilize high productivity projects within the program of investment of Jabel Hasawna and Jefara Water System.
To achieve this target the Authority has performed the following works:
The Authority has done topographical survey at some locations elected for study in what is considered a preliminary phase providing starting base to study the target locations. Total area of land which has gone through topography process and plot planned is 149,577 Ha.

Lab Works :
These studies are complementary to field studies of soil. The Authority through its Arab Libyan work teams of engineers made lab-tests to samples of soil from specified locations. Analysis covered 4 basic tests ( total Carbon Test, EC Salinity Level Test, PH Level Test and mechanical soil analysis ). This applies to all samples of soil. Tgere is also complete analysis for representative profiles to determine fertility status of soils. Total number of samples examined is 48,827 from various locations under study and anticipated for investment in Jabel Al Hasawna –Jefara Water System water.

The following table illustrates Regions and Areas studied in full details and semi-details and number of Samples Analyzed:
This is for the final phases of study. After insertion of information and analysis results in computer to establish conclusion embodied in final reports for all locations studied and their illustrative maps as follows:
1. Soil Depth Map.
2. Soil Classification Map.
3. Land suitability for permanent irrigation farming.
4. Soil Salinity Map.
5. Land suitability for irrigation purposes.
6. Optimum Utilization Map.
