Target Production Levels
In the course of investment in Jabel Hasawna Jefara System, it is planned to use 67.3 % of MMR conveyed water for Agricultural Investment Plan has been accomplished in Jabel Hasawna Jefara System. Which is quite keen to participate to maximize production of essential agre-commodities according to approaches and needs of Society. And to increase self-sufficiency and fulfil food security in its comprehensive concept .Based on studies prepared by the staff of the Authority and studies of the Master Plan.
According to the soil studies and previously climatic and economic conditions the crop pattern was selected in the following manner:
1. As for the existing settlement projects to be supplied with MMR water. The original crop pattern of project was approved as per studies conducted to establish these projects. This is in order to keep and maintain the infrastructure therein. With the possibility to use it to cut costs such as main and secondary irrigation water systems and farm, storage tanks etc
2. The crop pattern of the new settlement projects at Jefara Plaines Region have been defined as follows :
- Grains 40 %
- Fruits 20 %
- Forage crops 20 %
3. For investment productive projects (Tarhouna, Tajmoot, Abu Aisha, Suf Aljeen and Grarat Alqataf projects), the crop structure will be defend by the Authority and foreign investors according to the demand of local and international markets and securing the economic feasibility of the Project.
Accordingly, the investment project of Hasawna-Jefara system water of MMR will increase production of Grains, vegetables, fruits , fodders and oils.
Productivity rates were approved according the average productivity obtained in cultivation projects of the Authority as follows:
Productivity of Grains of joint investment projects is 6 ton/hectare
Productivity of Grains of other projects is 4.75 ton/hectare
Productivity of fodders is 6 ton/hectare
(N.B. Grain straw has been added to fodders equivalent to the following productivity: 1 pallet = 0.025 tons)
Productivity of vegetables is 35 ton/hectare
Productivity of fruits is 6 ton/hectare

Upon completion of investment programs and plans for MMR Project in all its phases . Libya shall be able to fulfil self-sufficiency in a large number of strategic and essential agri-commodities. 50 % of which being imported at the time being and to export surplus of other crop production.
